Perhaps these two events were coordinated, but within a short time after the Attorney General of New York sent subpoenas under a New York securities statute to five utilitiy companies seeking information on climate change disclosure by those companies, particularly with respect to coal-fired power plants, CERES and various environmental groups and state pension funds filed a petition with the SEC seeking a rulemaking requiring greater climate change disclosure.
