Portfolio Media, New York (February 22, 2007)--ExxonMobil Oil Corp. received a blow on Wednesday when a district court judge granted class action status to a group of Maryland homeowners who claim ExxonMobil contaminated their neighborhood.
The Fallston, Md. residents claim that a neighborhood ExxonMobil gasoline station has underground tanks that have been leaking gasoline with additive methyl tertiary butyl ether, or MTBE. The additive prevents air pollution but is carcinogenic to animals and is potentially carcinogenic.
