The Pew Center on Climate Change has become a central think tank on controlling greenhouse gas emissions and the economic and other factors involved in this endeavor. One of the critical issues in addressing climate change is controlling greenhouse gas emissions, carbon dioxide, from coal-fired power plants. The Pew Center on Climate Change has issued numerous white papers on coa and climate change that are worth reviewing. In previous articles on this blog, I have suggested the sale of "Carbon Bonds" to fund carbon capture and storage (CCS) of CO2 from coal-fired power plants. I believe this would create a "green jobs" program over the next 20 years. Since "green jobs" is a central policy of the President Elect Obama, a program to publicly fund or finance CCS should be a central part of the new Administration's economic recovery and climate change policies.
The Pew Center has issue a white paper entitled A Trust Fund Approach to Accelerating Deployment of CCS: Options and Considerations. I recommend this white paper to those interested in how CCS could become a reality and provide a crucial step in achieving greenhouse gas reductions that are called for by the International Panel on Climate Change.
