Vatican Supporting Steps to Address Climate Change
The Vatican is supporting action to address climate change and has placed solar panels on part of the roof of the Paul VI Hall. Pope Benedict the XVI has launched an effort to reduce the Vatican's carbon footprint. The solar installation consists of photovoltaic panels capable of producing 300,000 kilowatt hours of
of electricity. The solar power will provide a renewable energy source that will offset some of the Vatican's carbon emissions of 10,000 tons per year. The Vatican has committed to the use of 20 percent renewable energy by 2020.
